Meetings - Part 1: The gynecologist

The posts are rushing through my head, but I can’t find time to write it all down.

Every day I find topics that will make interesting articles. So many interesting meetings/ interactions with people. So many little happenings that make me stop and wonder. But where is the time?

Perhaps I should do only one-liners for a while. Just titles. And then wait for you all to fill in the rest. Or teeny tiny anecdotes to make you stop and wonder as well.

Start with this then:

You bring your daughter to ballet every week and sit for one hour between the other mums (and a sporadic dad) watching and waiting. You talk a little, gossip a little, exchange ideas on life or parenting. Then one day a mum doesn’t have time to bring her daughter and dad comes instead. He happens to be your gynecologist. What do you talk about?

Added:

It went a bit like this:

Me: “Oh, hi…. eh… how are you?”
He: “Hi, how are you doing?”

Then in the silence that followed I was wondering what to say. In his office I would say something like; Fine, but still having trouble with the c-section scar, and by the way I think I have some hormonal issues, and how about birth control?

A male gynecologist is like an auto mechanic who has never owned a car.
Carrie P. Snow

In reality I asked: “Which girl is yours?” And he pointed in some direction where there were a whole bunch of girls, and started steering back to his line of conversation by pointing at my baby daughter and commenting that she is getting big.

And then, thank God, I saw somebody else I know (just met the other week in fact) and excused myself. He must know, and understand my discomfort. Perhaps he cannot have a normal conversation anywhere in town and ends up sitting all by himself all the time.

I don’t know what I expect gynecologists to do in their free time, but surely not sit in shorts and t-shirt at my daughter’s ballet class… They should stay at home or at their clinics or operation rooms or so. And not become normal people like us and have a social life.

Give me one good reason

As you have probably noticed, I haven’t posted in a long long time. When you just had a baby, you find that your priorities are shifting. All of a sudden I wonder why I was blogging. Did I not have anything better to do? And to great disappointment of my husband there are more [...]

My 5-year-old daughter wants to be on the Oprah show. (So, Oprah, when you read this… ) A while ago I was watching a show of Oprah in which the guests were all contestants of The Biggest Loser. Immediately, my daughter came up with a plan. If she would eat herself fat first, then she [...]

Having a (sleeping) baby

If you asked me five years ago what it is like to have a baby in the house, I would have said that it very exhausting, a big shock, frustrating, etc. And it would all be an understatement. I would also admit that it was worth it, that I never smiled as much in my [...]

Happiness Facts #5: Being happy is a choice

If I had a child, I would be happy. If I had a partner, I would be happy. If my partner was rich, I would be happy. If my children were smart/independent/caring I would be happy.
These are the biggest misunderstandings about happiness. If you are unhappy, you will not be able to enjoy any of [...]

The pressure of expectations

Warning: Personal philosophies are described here. This is just my personal theory on social expectations. I hope you can follow my thread of thinking and that my social expectations theory gives you some food for thought.
