Anyone of you remember the post I wrote many months ago ‘Set goals and reach them’? It is one of the most popular posts of Without Dash, probably because it is ranking fairly well in Google. However, personally, this post is not making me happy. I set my goal. I reached my goal. And that was that. Somehow I did not set a new goal, lost motivation, and things started to slack from there.
My excuses: I had family over for a holiday of three weeks. I got pregnant and was really too tired to do anything. I was busy with other things than blogging, like cleaning, like building a few websites for friends, like getting a drivers’ license, etc.
The reality: 100 visitors a day or 20 visitors a day did not make a difference that much to me (or my Adsense account). I got lazy, lost interest, and forgot to see the overall goal. And I forgot to set new goals to reach for. And today is the day that I’m setting the new goals and start working towards it.
Let me explain what encouraged me to do so:
I was at a down last week, overall feeling tired and fat (I’m seven months now) and things did not want to move forward. A friend gave me a DVD of The Secret and I tried to explain that I have tried watching it several times, but couldn’t get through it. Remembering the Kellie’s guest post on visualization, I gave The Secret another chance. I guess I watched the first hour of it (I never got that far before), before I gave up and returned the DVD. But the thing that did stick in my mind was the visualization-part. That evening, I made a ‘print screen’ of my Adsense account which is always at 0.00. With Photoshop I added a few figures to that, to make it look like XX,000. I imagined if it was possible to reach such a figure with Adsense alone, but checking Steve Pavlina’s income within one year I guess it is possible (for smart people who work full time on their blogs, i.e. not exactly me).

Anyway, according to the Law of Attraction, the most important thing is if I believe it. So, I used this forged Adsense report as desktop background and started to focus on it twice a day, visualizing all that I would do once Google sent me the paycheck for it. I started to get pretty excited at the idea. This could mean that we finally could have a car, something I’m in desperate need of. No more school buses at 6.15 am for my 5-year-old. No more unreliable bus rides into town for my checkups, and last, a safe way to get around with a new-born. And be financially independent for once.
When I checked the report the next morning, there was for the first time since ages a figure different than the 0.00. Amazingly, it was 0.XX. Nearly the same figure as I was visualizing (only a 100,000 times smaller). Was this a coincidence? I open-closed-open-closed the window a few times, to see the difference with my desktop background and see the 00’s and XX’s shifting place. And I started to imagine that the larger number was the true one. Ever since that day last week, there has been that figure in the Adsense report each morning.
Anyway, Law of Attraction or coincidence; those few cents gave me new hope and motivation. And this gives me two things to do:
- Keep on visualizing, because maybe it does work… I just need to visualize the figure 100,000 time bigger.
- Starting to work on Without Dash again as a job, rather than a hobby. In other words: no more half-assed approaches, instead investing more spare time, writing, submitting, clicking, bookmarking, commenting, etc.
Starting today! I’m taking action! Again!

Anyone has a word of encouragement for me? Any similar events with visualization happening to you? Does it motivate you? Or do you really think that the universe will re-arrange itself to give you what you visualized and you do not need to take action?

Well, we will say that you are a creative writer! We enjoy reading your stuff. So you’ve got the content part covered pretty well.

We think that the people that make the most money blogging have their Blog as more a “point of contact” for another business, or for a book they’re selling or something like that.
But obviously you are smart and motivated, so you’ll figure it out. So keep on visualizing. We do. And it does work, but not always exactly as we picture. Such is life!

Thanks again for bringing us into your “family.”
How about that for a visualization?
Thanks GUYS. Positive reactions are the best motivators. Yeah, perhaps a book. I like the idea. All I need is a bit of time to write it.

How’s that baby…kicking like a mule?
I love your new found sense of interest with The Secret and visualization. It really does work. Even if you don’t see the results right away, you still come away with a more positive outlook on your life and goals.
I too have recently decided to renew some goals and start attracting the things I need and want again. Thanks for the mention in your post; it is always appreciated.

Posted 15 Sep 2009 at 9:38 pm ¶Good for you for have the energy and faith to renew some goals. I often find that setting the goals and starting on something is not just hardest step to take, it usually brings you a long way as well.
Thank you for the little push in the right direction, btw. It is all this mentioning of visualization that brought me back on track.
The baby is fine, but I am far to busy and enjoying myself to notice much at the moment. 8 weeks to go and I still want to do so many things.
