Happiness in 7 steps: Step 2 - What do I want?

Today, I continue with the happiness series. The seven steps are based on the theories of spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, on physical intelligence, creative intelligence, mental-, emotional-, spiritual-, social-, individual- and collective intelligence. You can’t go through these steps in a single day. Many people need more than a lifetime to get only halfway through these steps.

Step 2: What do I want?

If you know who you are, you can shape yourself. Start with asking yourself what you want. And here you do not ask yourself what is expected of you, or what others want for you. What do you want for yourself?

To create our lives and do things that we want to do, we need a phase to remove ourselves from our basis and figure out what we want. We do this using our creative intelligence. Normally this stage should happen during puberty, but lots of people have missed this, because they were to focused on the pressure from outside to do what others want them to do. Luckily, you can do it over at any time in your life.

Use your creative intelligence to find your own story and live it; you are breaking free of the pack and start thinking for yourself. You will start living your own life, not other people’s lives.

Thinking for yourself might have consequences for your current life, if you find out that you do not want to live it as it is. Thinking differently than the pack, you may have to weather a storm of criticism, because people are group thinkers and do not like to be different or do not like to accept others that are different. This is not a bad thing, but helps you breaking free and starting your own journey towards happiness.

I don’t even want to talk about it right now, because somebody might steal the idea.
Deepak Chopra

Watch a mental movie of your life and re-write the script where you would like to make changes. How is the relationship with your partner or children? How is your work? Try to notice common subjects when you are talking with friends. Things that you would like to share with others are usually the things that you like and you are good at.

The key to creative intelligence is focusing on quantity. Try to come up with as many ideas as possible. Do not worried about being judged by the pack, and dare to be open to anything, even though most of the ideas will be crap. Do not worry about ideas being useless or even ridiculous, just relax and let the thoughts come to you.

The next step in the series will be developing mental intelligence: what is important to you?

    Suzanne,

Hi, I left you a reply comment on my site but wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting WLL. I hope you get the chance to finish all of your “things”.

I think you are so right about the “rewrite the script” of your life “where you want to make changes”. Without locating ourselves on the map and knowing where we want to go, it is almost impossible to make true change that sticks. Do you do visualization techniques as well?
