Today, I start with the happiness series as I promised. The seven steps are based on the theories of spiritual guru Deepak Chopra, on physical intelligence, creative intelligence, mental-, emotional-, spiritual-, social-, individual- and collective intelligence. You can’t go through these steps in a single day. Many people need more than a lifetime to get only halfway through these steps.
Step 1: I am ok as I am.
Being content with yourself is the most important part of finding happiness. When you can look at your reflection and say: “I like myself!” is on the way to happiness. But how do we do that?
The first step is about physical intelligence. This intelligence is normally developed in the first ten years of your life, but if you skipped this step long ago, you can start over at any time in your life. With physical intelligence you can show that you like yourself, because it is all about how you treat yourself; about listening to your body and taking care of yourself.
Listen carefully to your body. It might not directly be screaming out: “heart attack!”, but it is whispers softly every day: “headache…, lower back ache…, itch…” You must have noticed that! Due to our busy lives we normally ignore these pleas and might even try to suppress the voices by taking pain killers.
However, physical intelligence does not only consist of listening to your body. It also includes making the commitment to take care of your body. If you can commit to your work, your children, your partners, then why do you not commit yourself to your own body? The relationship with yourself is the most important relationship that you have in your life; cherish it, love yourself, and take care of yourself.
Deepak Chopra
If you take care of yourself, you will also notice that your body is not only complaining when something is wrong, but that it will thank you for a great workout, or a good night’s sleep. Take not of the pleasures of your body as well and you are more likely to enjoy taking care of your body.
The next step in the series will be developing creative intelligence: what do you want?

Step one is definitely a hard one to hurdle. There is always something in oneself that one is dissatisfied over. But I’ll try to like myself more…
Posted 14 Jul 2009 at 1:46 pm ¶While poking around in the blogging women directory, I found your site. I’m impressed with your candid articles and “intelligent” manner in which you speak to your readers. It’s hard to find blogs with class and brains all at the same time. Your article on happiness is spot on. I too have shared similar information and life-experience on my women’s blog.
I will be back to read the rest of your series. Oh, I wanted to tell you how visually interesting your vintage photos and ads make your site.
Best,

Thank you KellieS! I’m glad you found me and can see the difference. I really enjoy writing and researching. And I’m currently going through a phase in which I want to reflect on myself and my life instead of husband, kids, work, etc. Now, my life is not that interesting to blog about. It is just another person’s life, you know? But I do like people to learn something from my experiences or my opinions on life. I hope the articles do express that.
