Values are those things that you find important in life. Maybe it is children, friendship, money, traveling, environment, career, romance, or justice. Values are personal and different for everyone. However, it is important to find a partner who has similar values. Only then is it possible to maintain a relationship after the butterflies are gone. By finding out your own values first, it will be easier to judge whether you fit with a person.

Personality is a very abstract concept, which makes comparing difficult. The fรอำmost important aspects of a personality are:

• Extraversion: how much do you need company? Do you prefer to be alone or with others? Are you assertive, excitement seeking, or quiet and introvert?
• Conscientiousness: do you have self discipline? Are you impulsive? How strong is your sense of duty? Do you keep promises and appointments?
• Neuroticism: Are you emotionally stable? How do you deal with stress? Do you have many emotional ups and downs?
• Agreeableness: How friendly and forgiving are you? Can you sympathize with others? Are you willing to compromise?
• Openness to experience: Are you down-to-earth or imaginative? Do you prefer the straight-forward and obvious? Do you appreciate art?

People with similar characteristics will fit together. Of course, a few differences will keep a relationship interesting, but the differences should not be large enough for conflicts to arise.

Often is said that opposites attract each other, but if it concerns personality this statement is not true. Nearly half of divorced people will state ‘personality clash’ as reason for their separation.

Someone with a different personality might be very interesting in the start, but after a while the differences will become issues to argue over and it will get harder and harder to understand the other.
